How do U make an oval track?

Posted by Damir from 195.252.103.25:

I am pretty unexperienced in track editing so please help me.How can I make an oval part of a track?

Posted by addie from 194.191.82.27:

basically its the same as a regular track, only the layout is different. see http://www.grandprix3.ch/TEIC/index.html for info.
i hope it helps

Posted by AAS from 193.159.69.68:

Damir how do you mean ?
Maybe banking part of a track?

Posted by Damir from 195.252.103.25:

Yes.You see, a part of my fictional track is supposed to be banked. I worked on flat tracks like Silverstone 87 or new Paul Ricard, but I've never made an oval track before.Sorry 'bout misunderstanding. It's my english.

Posted by The Smoking Pen from 212.159.1.1:

You use command 0xad to give one side of the track a height. You have to work out the height for yourself, based on the width of the track at that point and the tangent of the angle you need - keep in mind that the track width you specify is only half of the actual track width, so you need to double the height command.

Tangent(Banking Angle)*Track Width*2=Height

This assumes you haven't altered the track width left or right to be different from the main track width, otherwise you have to use the average of the two.

Sub-Horizon on/off

Posted by Marcos Gauguin from 200.195.104.126:

I simply can't make the sub-horizon textures show up in my track.
I looked hard for some command for it in original tracks but did not find anything.
Can anyone help me, please ?

Thanks
Gauguin

Posted by Karl Sanders from 172.189.6.62:

You have to look at horizon base mapping in the first track sector (number Zero) there are numbers in here to match the various positions around the circuit. Look at one of the original tracks for guidance.

Posted by Marcos Gauguin from 200.190.241.107:

That's exactly what I've been doing. But even copying the 16 mapping commands and changing to the right jam id's didn't work. Could there be a command for switching them on or off ?

final problem (view pit lane <> track)

Posted by mindprobe from 212.18.191.117:

Hi guys!

I'm almost finishing a track, but i have a final problem to solve, i hope you guys can help me with this one:

My track is from the thirties, and in those days the pit lane wasn't seperated from the track, there were no walls, nothing, i was trying to recreate this in my track, but when i drive along the pitlane, the track tarmac is not vesible but the scenary is, and when on the track, the pit tarmac is not visible, but the scenary is, is there a way of making the tarmac in both cases to show up?

thanks!

Posted by addie from 194.191.82.27:

lookout for the "greg moore memorial westwood track for grandprix2" made by les danyluk aka fat rat. its not really "no pit walls and nothing", but closely. there are several cmds to control this 0xd4, d6, d7, d8 and maybe more. beside that its one of the top notch grandprix2 tracks ever.

bern-bremgarten is also a track that origined in the thirties. though it had some kind of pit lane behind the building, during the race the cars pitted in front of the building actually. fortunately there always were quite a few people standing there looking, so i could "use them" to make "a wall" and avoid the mentioned problem.

i hope its uesful

GP2 - 340mph!!!

Posted by AD from 62.30.112.1:

Yep, I'm serious! I was doing some expriments with tyre compounds, and found that various compounds (such as P and Z, Z is 77) make the cars take off whilst trying to exit the pits. Very wierd!

Posted by addie from 194.191.82.27:

yeah, the effect is known.
for having a good laugh you also could start a race on that track and watch :)
somewhere on the net there should be "a patch" for this also, but dont ask me where.

Horizon settings

Posted by Damir from 195.252.103.99:

Hi everybody! I have this problem with a track I'm workin' on. It is much longer than original (Interlagos) and in one part the horison texture crosses the road. It looks very ugly so can anybody help?

Posted by Bob P from 65.94.225.158:

Did you turn the scenery off? Is it the scenery that is crossing the track? I seems to me that may be what is happening?

Posted by addie from 194.191.82.27:

i'd say horizon never crosses the track, so it has to be something else, as bob mentioned, its most probably scenery. see cmds 0xaf, c0 and c1 in the commandlib and you will get the idea. or even better martijn keizers scenery tutorial. you could get it here http://www.grandprix3.ch/TEIC/index.html follow writings

Posted by Damir from 195.252.103.15:

It's not a scenery problem definitely. I removed all scenery but this doesn't solve the problem. But there's important thing I forgot to mention: it only happens in CAMERA view. When car comes to the camera you cannot see it because this texture is in front ,like a curtain. So is this a camera problem? If it is what causes it? (If helps this happens in a very long straight covered only by one camera at the end of it.)

Posted by mindprobe from 212.18.191.117:

the something happens to me, and only in camera view, i haven't tried to solve it yet, and i'm not shure, but i think you'll have to rise the value of the object view ahead in that camera, it looks like the camera only films until, let's say, half of a straight and then after that a black green(sub-horizon missing) at least in my case.

hope it helps

Posted by Bob P from 65.94.225.184:

Yes, I think it is a camera setting--you're onto the right solution Mindprobe. It is that the camera view distance is not long enough, so it cannot "see" as far as you are expecting.

I've seen this problem before. One thing you can do is just set the "Object view behind" and "Object view Ahead" for the camera in question to 255 and see if that solves it.

Hope that helps.

Bob

Camera shows no horizon

Posted by Andreas Forrer from 32.101.253.88:

I added some cameras to my track and they work fine, but they don't show the horizon. They show ribbons though, but no horizon. Just ugly green instead. What am I missing?

Posted by Bob P from 65.94.224.156:

Does the horizon show when you drive? Could it be that the jams are not properly located?

Posted by Schubert from 203.199.170.6:

The horizons have some special id's i think. check them.

Posted by Gore from 213.243.137.165:

Edit the unk1 section in the camera editor. Try 65550, 65500, 65450, 65400 or 65350.

Posted by Andreas Forrer from 146.180.92.194:

I'll try the advice with the unks. Just to answer the other questions: Yes, the horizon does show on existing cameras and while in the cockpit, it just doesn't appear in the new cameras.

Posted by Andreas Forrer from 146.180.92.194:

I tried all the unk1 values as recommended by Gore, but none would resolve the problem.
:-(

Posted by mindprobe from 212.18.191.117:

If it his for GP3 it has to be GP3?1 in the unk section, i tried it in one track i have, it's a flat track and arg. 3 in the command horizon adjustment is set to -20, in GP3?1 with a value 0f 64499 the sky turns green, this is because the hrizon is to high and what shows up in the camera is the subhorizon(i think) with a value of 65199 to 65299 the only thing that shows up in the cameras is sky, with 65499 the full horizon texture shows up in the camera, this is basically what Gore told you to do, but it has to be in GP3?1 and not in unk1.

Anyway, does anyone knows how to change the height of the horizon showed in the outside cameras? i tried the other unks but didn't find anything.

How long (minimum track length)

Posted by Kev C from 213.120.56.33:

Hi a lontime since I have been here.
How short a track is it possable to make?
Kev C.

Posted by Schubert from 203.199.170.6:

Depends from slot to slot i think. See the TEIC. Its there somewhere.
In the trouble shooters faq

Posted by addie from 194.191.82.27:

it depends on the slot if you dont use SDIs gpxpatch. if you do, the limit is at some 1000m. if you go shorter, the track will still load but you may have to face more and more crashes and other nasty phenomenas. gpxpatch and magicdata that is

Creating complex objects

What are flags in jams

Posted by Scraeder from 147.32.160.51:

Please, can somebody tell me, what do flags mean ? Flags in Jam File

Posted by James Knopp from 195.92.168.165:

JAM Flags are basically properties or attributes that jam tetxures have which GP3 recognises. Basically these properties tell GP3 how to deal with the texture - something that could not be implemented into the JAM file. These flags tell GP3 how they are to be displayed... e.g. there is a trasparency flag which tells GP3 that if this texture contains a certain colour, (the transparency colour) that colour should not be drawn and where that colour is, that colour becomes see-through.

GP2 Magic Data!

Posted by Matteo from 213.45.254.55:

hi,

don't know if this is already known...
some of the magic data in gp3 are also avaible in gp2 I think...
what about you?
I say this cause I've talk a lot with some guys in the SDI forum about perfs and we have found that incidents are dependant by drivers' range... well I think that the data 17 and 18 in the track config|cc car set up section are the so called min and max range in magic data, cause their change causes a reduction (encreasing) of incidents as a range value!

At now I'm really interessed knowing if is possible that other data could be in the config section (also in the pit data section) spacially about failures probability!

thanx for attention and excuse my english,
Matteo

Posted by AD from 62.30.112.1:

Funny you should mention track-related reliability, actually.

I did a League race at Imola with a lot of black flags around, but the quals without them. A few test races after the quals had about 13 finishers. With black flags there were about 19. I did several acceleerated races each time.

Posted by Matteo from 212.171.207.232:

hi!

really I don't know what I can say about: is new for me! My "research" is related to perfs and so to track fisics and failure statistics... really wonder that flags (black) affect retirements:
but are they incidents or failures?

bye,
Matteo.

Michigan Track (cc-cars cant pit)

Posted by Ron Dye from 24.65.242.156:

I have downloaded michigan raceway from several places and when I race on it I noticed something strange. The computer cars can't hit their pit boxes so they run out of fuel. Can anyone help me? cavorite@shaw.ca

Posted by gap from 62.211.61.37:

I haven't this track (where it is possible to find it?) but I noticed almost the same problem in the old version of Augusto Dewey's Buenos Aires track (mostly, the CC cars weren't able to enter the pitlane and crasched against the fences) and in Bruno Gourdo's 2001 Interlagos after I changed his magic file with the one made by a perf. maker. In this last case some cars, after hitting the fences, had not damage due to low speed, but ran out of fuel. This experience make I think that this kind of problem is due to the magic files (but I don't know exactly wich parameter).

Monaco prob!! ("getNthArg: No Cmd Arg" )

Posted by Schubert from 203.199.170.218:

Whenever i try to edit the Monaco.....
the TE comes up with this error continously... even if OK is pressed

"getNthArg: No Cmd Arg"

What could possibly be the reason? I just can't edit because it comes after every change i make and after clicking OK several times it simply shuts down the TE.

Posted by Marcos Gauguin from 200.217.2.250:

Same problem here. For a year. Does anyone have a solution ?
Gauguin

Posted by Paul Edmonds from 212.88.40.146:

It's down to what you have selected to be shown in the Track Editor. If you have Show Scenery ticked in thr show menu, you get this message. Untick it and it seems to disappear.
I've never played around with it further than that, as I don't use Monaco as a base for any track editing.

Posted by Schubert from 203.199.171.249:

It didn't work. But then there's Iso TE and its working well in it.

World View doesn't work in TE

Posted by Chris from 195.92.168.168:

I can't get the 3d world view to work in the TE. I click the button and a new (empty) window appears, but if I click the drive button I get an error message saying 'turn on draw by segments' and if I click the camera view button, I get an illegal operation box and the program closes. Can anyone help?

Cheers, Chris

Posted by Flo from 80.128.219.24:

You need to have OpenGL drivers.

Posted by Chris from 195.92.168.171:

I think I do, I have an nvidia geforce 2 graphics card and I have the latest drivers for that. I've downloaded the open gl dll files from the TE homepage but how do I use them?

troubles in creating Hockenheim 70

Posted by gap from 62.211.250.27:

Hi people,
I’m just new in track editing. As first essay I tried modifying the circuit of Hockenheim (GP3 original version) so that it fit the 70-81 layout, without the chicane just before the Ostkurve. I proceeded so: I don’t removed any sector, I changed only the angles of the track sectors in the chicane, in order to delete it, and the lengths of some other track and pit sector, in order to make that the first and the last track sectors fit together again and the first an the last pit sectors fit again with the original track sectors holding the pit entrance and pit exit commands. I hope I’ve been clear, however my changes are here:

ts 34 ang = 1.5106201171875
ts35-ts42 ang = 1.614990234375
ts0 len = 21
ts60 len = 149
ts99 len = 21
ps19 len = 50
ps29 len = 5

(maybe I forgot some little details, but I’m almost sure…).
Evidently this was a procedure too much optimistic (just a few minutes of work…) because when I try loading this track on GP3 (after reinserting magic data), the program freezes itself and when I reload the track in TE (2.2.0.804) I receive the message “C\program could not be opened (OS error information = 2)”, even if - after this message - I’m still able to see and edit the track in TE.
The next phase should be (beside the track layout perfecting) to change . in correspondence with the old chicane the kerbs, the verge and object distances, the track signs, the CCline, etc; the third phase: change, add or remove some objects, change the adverts, and some others “artistic” final touch…. but I’m still stagnant in the first one :( and I remember that “the track works how you PROGRAM it, and not how you want it !” (Addie Walti), so …
…there’s anyone here witch can give me some clue, please? I don’t have any idea about the problem and how solve it and I should be grateful for you help! :)

Gabriele

Posted by James Burgess from 62.7.0.62:

You need to re-do the CC-Line to match the track layout and you may have to make some other changes to get the track to work. (try running in debug mode and also in practice mode).

Posted by gap from 62.211.250.27:

Thanks James,
I tried also with the debug mode and in practice with an uman player selected (no CCcars), but it is the same: Gp3 freezes.
I was believing that it was possible for a human player drive a track whithout a ccline (or with a wrong one) because this line is necesary only for the ccdrivers and for the human steering help. Is it wrong? I pose this question 'cause i want to be sure that there are not coarse errors in the track layout before I edit the ccline.
More: I noticed that the ccline of some tracks (Hockenheim included) in some points run far from the track, even if it still tread the track layout. As is it possible, and how to behave in this cases? (I can redo this sections in such a way that it fit with the track, or I must let the line in her position, working only on her shape?)...

Posted by Flo from 217.226.120.150:

If you drive your track with a jostick or steering wheel you don't need a cc-line to test it. Only if you want to use the steering help or there are cc-cars on the track.
It is normal that the cc-line does not fit in the track and runs off. To make a cc-line you cannot use the track editor to view if it is correct, you always have to start GP3 and look how the cc-cars drive (or crash).
To the crash problem: Perhaps you changed the pitlane without changing the pitlane commands. If you want to change the points where the pitlane hits the track, you also have to move some pitlane commands (see addie's pitlane guide for further informations: http://www.grandprix3.ch/TEIC/tutus/files/pitq.zip).

Posted by Kent from 62.255.32.5:

You need to completly remove the ccline, I have had this problem quite a few times when I have altered an existing Gp3 track.

I had to do this when I updated the Silverstone startline, it seems that if you make a major change to an existing Gp3 track layout it can make the ccline overflow and there for make Gp3 freeze, that's my theory anyway.

So try removing the ccline completly by selecting remove ccline from the list in the ccline drop down menu in the track editor.

You will of course have to rebuild the ccline from scratch if you do this but sometimes its the only way to get a modified Gp3 trcak to work.

Kent

Posted by gap from 62.211.61.179:

It works!!!
Kent was right (thanks pal), my problem was with the original ccline, so I had to remove it and now that's all right even if, ideed, the cc cars run out the track. Now I must redo the line (peraphs the most difficult deal)but at least I know that there are not errors in the track layout....

I'm obliged to all you for your commitment.
Gabriele

Posted by Marcos Gauguin from 200.190.240.195:

Hey Gap
What about removing only the CC line sectors located after the track sectors you modified?
Gauguin

Posted by gapgap from 62.211.250.36:

Hi Marcos,
few days ago I tried aso this one and it seems to work fine, but in the meantime I apported new changes to the track layout: I changed the shape of the two remaining chicanes, I made tighter the angle of the new (old)Ostkurve, and I slightly shortened the lenght of the straight line after the first curve. All this changes was made according to the track map in the Hockenheim website and to the original track lenght (6789 m). Due to this I noticed that for me the best way in creating a ccline is to start a completely new one. I beginned this work yesterday and I'm proceading very well...

Thank for your clue and merry Xmas,

Gabriele
